Shopee Product and Design Challenge

"Shopee Gifts (S - Gifts)"

Description:

This challenge was a fun challenge I asked my friend to accompany me to do in order to exercise our design and problem solving skills. Though unfortunately we did not make it past the first round, it was still a fun 2 weeks working on the problem Shopee had given to us.

We came up with a fun feature called S-Gifts, read below to see how we came up with it or read our submissions to the right.

In this challenge, I was responsible for the user research and write up while my partner focused on the prototype graphics

Details:

Team size :   2 Person

Problem statement :

The theme of this year's challenge is “Engaging the 2021 Local Consumer”.

The problem statement is as follows:

"Taking into consideration Shopee’s current initiatives on its mobile app in the respective markets and the local consumer behaviour, propose a solution that focuses on

    (i) improving an existing feature

(ii) creating a new feature that would enable Shopee to remain the leading e-commerce platform in your chosen market."

Research :

Given the social situation at the time, with social distance in phase 2. We brainstormed on some of the issues of e-commerce and finally decided upon an experience that we had personally experience. During the lockdown, there was an abundance of food gift delivering over apps such as Grab Food, Food Panda, etc. for events such as birthdays and anniversaries.

However the experience was rather janky as you had to key in the address of the person you wanted to deliver to and store it as an alternate address before you could deliver to them. The second issue with this is that, on these apps, there was no way to change the recipients name as it assumed you would be purchasing the food for yourself. We were only able to make it known to our intended recipient by leaving a remark for the delivery person to relay to the recipient. Without this, there might be some awkward conversation of "Hey, I didn't order any food right now".

In light of this issue we brainstormed, we came up with a simple, user-centric concept called Shopee Gift, or “S-Gift”. This feature would be targeted at customers who purchase items from e-commerce platforms for people not living in the same address as the customer on Shopee’s mobile app.

However we were making many assumptions with this proposal, so in the spirit of UX, we conducted an anonymous survey to gather some feedback if people were interested in our idea and these were some of the results :
